Earth Stewardship: Holy Trinity's "Green Church"
The Green Church Committee was formed to carry out the following mission: To conserve energy and protect the environment of our planet by providing information and guidance to the church and its members.
Our Committee has discussed various ways to use less energy such as using cfls (compact fluorescent lights) rather than incandescent light bulbs. We have also had two meetings to which all members of the parish were invited and at which a movie was shown and energy conservation and the dangers of pollution were discussed. We are in the process of requesting energy audits to to help determine whether or not solar energy could be used to heat and cool the church.
We will be offering conservation suggestions and relevant website addresses in the future on this website. Please contact Alan Goldman at 404-633-6863 or at joalgold@yahoo.com for questions, suggestions, or comments.
Bill McKibben Lecture and Book Signing
Author, educator and environmentalist Bill McKibben spoke at Holy Trinity on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 about his most recent book, Fight Global Warming Now, telling the story of organizing the largest single environmental action ever in 2007, when citizens from across the country staged a call to action for Congress to address global warming. The evening was sponsored by Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, a faith-based nonprofit seeking to engage faith communities in the stewardship of creation, particularly in the ways we generate and use electrical power, and the Georgia Center for the Book. Holy Trinity was proud to host this environmental awareness event for the community.
