A brief history of Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity Parish was established in Decatur, Georgia in 1892 as a member of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America, a part of the world wide Anglican Communion. At the time the Diocese of Georgia covered all of Georgia. Holy Trinity was a charter parish when the Diocese of Atlanta was established in 1907. From the beginning, the clergy and members of Holy Trinity have sought to spread the Gospel in a variety of ways.
During the first one hundred years of parish life, the congregation planted seeds for the establishment of three substantial Atlanta area churches: St. Bartholomew's, St. Michael, and All Angels and Holy Cross. All the while, Holy Trinity continued to flourish and become a leading church in the diocese.
Today, more than one hundred years later, Holy Trinity Parish continues to offer an active ministry presence. The parish is proud of its commitment to the homeless, elderly and youth. We reach out to the community and beyond in many ways, affirming that all people are loved by God. Holy Trinity supports the Millennium Development Goals and designates a portion of the parish budget for this purpose. The rich liturgical life of the parish serves both the congregation and the community. More than 500 families make up this diverse congregation today, and many more are associated with the abundance of ministries offered to celebrate the grace of God.
Diocese of Atlanta turns 100
On February 12, 1733, Christ Church was established in Savannah as the first Anglican Church in the state of Georgia. From this beginning, the Anglican church grew in Georgia until the Diocesan Convention meeting in 1907, when, by unanimous vote, the Diocese of Georgia was divided into two, creating our diocese, the Diocese of Atlanta. We held our Primary Convention, or first meeting, on December 1907 at Christ Church in Macon, our diocese's oldest parish. Today the Diocese of Atlanta has 93 parishes representing more than 55,000 parishioners. Holy Trinity celebrates with the Diocese of Atlanta 100 years of sharing and caring. In the East Atlanta Convocation, two celebrations of the centennial are planned for 2007. More information on the Centennial Celebrations of the Diocese are available by visiting the Diocesan Centennial Celebration website .
